Jonathan “J.P.” Parker is a seasoned attorney and entrepreneur who has established a distinguished reputation for success. It is his high energy combined with diverse experience that has been the cornerstone for his accomplishments since becoming a lawyer admitted to the Florida and New Jersey Bars in 1988.

Most recently, Parker and his wife Melissa opened a UPS Store in Miami Beach. This was Parker’s first experience operating a business in Miami Beach after owning and operating three General Nutrition Center (GNC) stores; one on Calle Ocho in Miami, one in Hialeah and one on Marco Island. The Parkers have no problem working within the confines of a system to appropriately differentiate their operations for success.

Parker first became interested in criminal law while working as an intern for The Legal Aid Society in New York City while in law school. He practiced law with two private firms in South Florida before opening Parker & Maloney in Coral Gables in 1991. Over the years, Parker’s legal experience included representation of businesses and individuals in a multitude of legal areas, providing a strong foundation of legal knowledge and the workings of the court system. Parker now limits his practice primarily to DUI defense and related matters in order to personally provide representation of his clients, but is experienced and consults in many areas of the law.

In addition to being a member of both the Florida and New Jersey Bars, Parker was admitted to the Hawaii Bar in 2011. Parker describes taking a bar exam almost 25 years after graduating from law school as akin to a trip to the Twilight Zone – not for the faint of heart.

Parker has a wide range of practical experience to draw from when advising clients. He has worked in the financial, banking, and travel industries for companies such as Prudential Securities, UBS, Wachovia Securities, and Marriott, and has held multiple securities and insurance licenses. In 2001, the South Florida Business Journal named Parker “2001 Up and Comer of the Year” in the financial industry. He is a certified arbitrator for Financial Industry Regulation Authority (FINRA) and served as Chairman of  Florida Bar Grievance Committee 11C.

Parker also spent almost three years as host of radio’s The Lawmen Show broadcast in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market on 880AM “The Biz,” where he and two other attorneys discussed legal and business topics in terms that regular people understand. Parker continues to be a guest commentator on television and radio and has appeared on Good Morning America, as well as Miami’s ABC and FOX affiliates. Additionally, he has been quoted in USA Today, The New York Post, and The Miami Herald. He is also an experienced public speaker, having presented innumerable seminars to large groups.

Parker holds a B.S. degree from Tulane University in New Orleans with a major in Mathematics and minor in Computer Science. He received his law degree (J.D.) from the University of Miami School of Law and received honors, including Editor-In-Chief of Amicus Curiae for two years and Society of Bar and Gavel honoree.

Parker’s philanthropic interests and commitment to the community are diverse as well. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Miami Beach, a Past President of the Rotary Club of Miami, and Past Membership Chairman of Rotary International District 6990 (the South Florida/Bahamas Rotary District). Formerly, he was a Board Member and Chairman of Major Gifts for the American Cancer Society (“ACS”) Florida Division, President of New Directions (the young professional group of ACS), and a member of the University of Miami Citizens Board. He also supports other charitable organizations.
